Amazon Leo said it agreed to supply internet connectivity services to AT&T in a deal that would expand the wireless provider’s service area.
In a joint press release with Amazon, AT&T said Amazon Leo’s connectivity services would allow it to serve customers in broader areas. AT&T will use Amazon Leo to deliver fixed broadband services to business customers.
The Wednesday announcement also included plans for AT&T to outfit Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers with high-capacity fiber. AT&T also plans to outsource some of its computing to AWS clouds, using Amazon’s Q Developer AI software to expedite the process.
“By pairing our expanding fiber infrastructure with AWS’s cloud capabilities, and through our collaboration to deliver the infrastructure of the future by connecting data centers, we’re creating a more resilient, scalable, and intelligent connectivity ecosystem,” Senior Vice President Shawn Hakl of AT&T Business said. “AT&T provides customers with reliable, high-speed connectivity wherever they need it.”
Enterprise customers are a target market for Amazon Leo. Last year, Amazon Leo detailed new programs for enterprise consumers with integrated AWS functionality.
The companies said they would share more details about their collaboration at the Mobile World Congress technology conference in early March.
Amazon Leo is launching 32 new satellites with Arianespace in a mission targeted for Feb. 12.
